Downloadable quizzes only go up to level 3, too time consuming to make and rate higher level quizzes. Would be far better if you could easily get pre-made word lists up to grade 12.

Huldru v1.8.2 · 12 years ago

Buggy

While creating a word list, sentences are wiped out with the same last sentence you enter for all words you have created for the list.

I would really love to use this app for my kids but I can’t even get it to add students names to use the other features :(. If I could at least be able to use the app then im sure that I would rate it better.

This looked like a great way to get my child to study his spelling words. We were not able to save spelling lists and had to re-type the words each time. I could see it possibly working for a teacher who could type the list once and then have each student take it in one day. It says the words, gives the definition and reports the percentage spelled correctly. As I said, it had potential but is not worth the $5.

I have to assume this is a bug, although I cannot fathom how the developer missed this. Nothing entered is saved. Not the spelling words, the quizzes, or student info. Everything is empty each time the program starts. Even forcing a save ("export") caused the program to completely hang. Folks, DO NOT BUY this until the developer updates. Palaware, please fix this immediately!! Could be useful if it would work. My kids actually WANT to try this.

This has been a great tool to help my 2nd grader with her spelling words. I have a daughter who loves to do work on the computer and this makes taking her test a lot more fun than me doing it. I still make her write the words she misses so she can practice her printing but its nice to have a record of the progress she is making. Features: 1) Ability to create your own spelling list 2) Ability to create sentences to go along with the word 3) You can record the words and sentences in your own voice 4) Having a record of the progress and which words are gving your child a lot of trouble 5) Ability to create multipule spelling lists so if you get 4 weeks of lists in advance like we do you can sit down and record all 4 weeks then not have to worry about it until the next 4 weeks I would recommend this to any of my friends to help in teaching weekly spelling lists.

Disappointed that I need to import all the words to be spelled. I am an expat mom who was looking for ways to keep my kids English skills up to par while they are learning another language. Liked that I can customize the list based on words they ask about, but would like to also have some standard lists that I can just pull up and have them work on as well.

I really like the fact that it saves the words that your child is working on. So you can custom build lists. I also like the fact that it allows you to record your own voice if you have a headset with a microphone. This saves the child from always asking what did the computer generated voice say? It also repeats the word twice in a very short interval. This is a nice touch. I am already seeing progress with my son in being able to spell various body part words. It has only crashed once on me. I was able to restart and havent had any problems since. I recommend this program. Update works great. I was able to export my tests from one Mac to another with Dropbox. It worked flawlessly. I love it. It is so nice. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I like this program. I like the way you can import word lists, create your own, and select specific words from those lists to study. I have not had any trouble saving lists. My major complaint is that the first letter of EVERY word is CAPITALIZED. Teaching children when to captialize is challenging enough, if you show them all of their spelling words with the first letter capitalized that is how they will remember them. The animation is a bit distracting as well. I wish they had animated the sentences as they were read out loud rather than the flash cards changing and new thumb tacks appearing. Fix those two things and I will use this in my 5th grade classroom as well as with my son and daughter.

If nothing else, Im giving this app 5 stars for quick response from the developer. I had an issue today and sent off an e-mail to the support e-mail asking for help. (A Saturday) Got a personal response less than an hour later. That rates high in my book. As for the app itself, Im still learning the ins and outs. So far I like it. It would be nice if there was a comprehensive set of importable content, even if it was through a third-pary. There are demo files from the publishers site which are nice, but they doesnt cover all grade levels. Admittedly, creating a comprehensive list of words for all grades that everyone would love is a bit of a no-win situation. But it would still be good to see a respected authority in this area create importable lists, even if its for a small fee. That would save all of us a lot of time at least to start, then we could modify/add word lists for our specific situations.

We loved it so much on the iPads we figured wed get it for the Macs.  As hard as it is to believe, it seems better then on the iPad.  They did a great job on this layout and so-far runs flawless. The kids actually WANT to practice there spelling lists with it.  Sometimes all 3 are using different devises running SpellBoard at the same time and would rather use it then play the arcade games. Its so easy to use that all 3 (youngest being 6) are sending quizzes to each other that they made up themselves (across different platforms). Its great to watch them learning and having fun at the same time! The only problem is, that its getting hard to find an unused devise that I can use and get in on the action. Thanks SpellBoard GREAT job.

**There is a bug where the add a picture icon where you drag the pic into is not there. You have to save the word then re-open it before you see the photo area to drag.** Otherwise: This is what any parent or teacher, who takes the time to teach in detail, would really appreciate. It saves time and money, and the organization of lists all kept in one central place makes a nice reference map. Its difficult to meet the potential of children, but apps like this do help. One request though: Please make the iphone version capable to create lists. Thank you;.

This seems to be the best spelling program available in the Apple store. Would be even better with the following added/fixed: - not being able to resize windows is a little annoying, especially when working with long spelling lists. - would be good if the program prompted you to choose a student when logging in (when you have more than one). - incorporating Apples inbuilt spell check would be handy for adding your own custom words. - cant close the substitutions dialog without going to the menu and selecting "hide substitutions". - would be handy to be able to search for and remove duplicate words from long custom spelling lists. - when editing long custom spelling lists it would be good to have an auto-save function and "next" option so you dont have to edit a word, save it, go back to the whole list and look for the next word you want to edit.

This used to be good software… Now when i email or message a spelling quiz to someone it comes up with a message containing no attachment. When I attach an exported file the iPod doenst know what to do with it. So I have to send from a Mac desktop to an iPad and then to a iPod Touch. What a joke!

I bought this last summer to use to help my daughter study for a middle school spelling competition. It worked well on the computer once I got the lists entered. The input from text files has been improved since then and I just finished loading it with over 3000 words for a high school spelling competition. The ability to share quizzes between my laptop and my iPod have been nicely improved. I can now use iCloud to transfer between my devices. I also liked the ability to Airdrop quizzes between computers.

Ive seen apps that do one or two of the things that this app does. The word search puzzle feature is brilliant! I love being able to put in my own words for each week and then being able to go back to those lists later. The sentence feature is really nice and being able to drag photos in from the stockxchange is an invaluable time saver. Learning is happening and the variety of tasks sets this app apart. It would be cool to have some sort of reward system, a mini game or sticker collection game. This would put this already amazing app over the top.

I am very impressed with this application! We now use this to take our weekly spelling tests! Our class discovered an issue and they worked very quickly to fix the issue. My students are very impressed that their discovery helped make a change. Our class average scores have increased. We even have had two tests that every student (all 21) have passed the test! We recommend this app to help kids practice their words and vocabulary as it is a very fun and rewarding way to practice their words. Thanks PalaSoftware!
